TX-MERCERCOL-L For anyone with a genealogical interest in Mercer's Colony in Texas. Mercer's Colony was secured by Charles Mercer, a member of the House of Representatives from Virginia, as a land grant from the Republic of Texas in 1844 and covered all or part of the present Texas counties of Hunt, Rains, Rockwall, Kaufman, Van Zandt, Henderson, Navarro, Hill, McLennan, Johnston, Ellis and Dallas. Mercer's colonizing association was called the "Texas Association" but is more commonly referred to as Mercer's Colony.
